West Yorkshire ICB is recommending a switch from canagliflozin (Invokana®), empagliflozin (Jardiance®) and ertugliflozin (Steglatro®) to dapagliflozin 10mg. Dapagliflozin is now available as a generic medicine, making it a more cost-effective option for the NHS while remaining just as safe and effective.

SGLT-2 inhibitor medicines (“gliflozins”) help protect the heart and kidneys, support people with diabetes, and reduce the risk of heart failure. Patients suitable for the switch will have their repeat prescription updated to dapagliflozin 10mg once daily.

Patients should continue their current medication until their next prescription is issued and should not take both medicines together. Most people will notice no difference after switching.
